DIY Deco Mesh Wreath
I love these things. I know that is not a shock if you have been reading this blog for a while, but man, this is definitely my craft of choice. Easy, whimsical, big impact, full of personality, what could be better? Clearly, I have made a few (and a couple more since that blog was posted...).
I get a lot of questions on how to make them on Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram, so I thought I would throw together a little mini tutorial. Don't go buying a WAY too expensive pre-made wreath (unless I decide to start selling them...then go for it, haha!), make one yourself!
I learned from this video (I wish I had her Southern accent instead of my MinnesOta accent). Someday I might make my own video but that would involve showering and preparation.
Let's get to it! First, you need to get your hands on a work wreath. This is probably the hardest part for me because we do not have a Hobby Lobby nearby. I prefer these forms that have the tinsel twists ready to go, and none of the craft stores close to me sell them (Michael's...I'm talking to YOU!). Trendy Tree and Mardi Gras Outlet are where I order from if I don't have any road trips near a Hobby Lobby. The deco mesh and ribbon you can pick up from those online sites (they usually have the best selection of patterns or unique colors) or any "with it" craft store. :) Michael's FINALLY is starting to sell deco mesh. A little late to the game, but at least they have it now.
I always lay my supplies out, but it usually changes as I start making it (like you will see with this wreath).
I start out with whichever deco mesh I want as the base or outside ring. I just realized my lady from the video that taught me does the inner ring first. I'm a cheater! Either works. You just squeeze the mesh together and tie the twists around.
Then make a "pouf" like the lady in the video says, and tie that next piece. You do this all the way around!

You can keep going all the way around the inside as well, or switch to another color like I did here. Clearly my poufs aren't perfect, but I kind of think it adds to the whimsy of these wreaths.
Once I have the mesh on, I test out my ribbon and see if I like it. I decided to skip the one I have above and went with darker coppers and browns (I'm gifting this to a classy person). I did the ribbon around the edge the same way I do the mesh. This one I did around just the outside ring, but a lot of times I will angle back and forth from inner to outer circle.
You can add in more ribbon or embellishments at this point. I added in the last ribbon tying from the inside circle to the outside circle. Ta da!
Last but not least, I test it on the door! I noticed you could see a lot of the silver ties so I tucked a few back, but it doesn't bother me too much.
